THE MINT

Corner of 5th & MIssion, SF 9pm- 3:30am, 21+

The Mint, built in 1874, also known affectionately as The Granite Lady, is one of the few that survived the great 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Located in the heart of the city at 5th and Mission, you’ve seen it from the outside many, many times. Have you seen the inside? Few have.

We are still a destination for conscious party people seeking the intersection of art, community, music, experience, and some surprises. A place for immersive and interactive experience in a regal setting. Let’s face it, 2017 was a another crap year in many ways. But – Hope Springs Eternal, so come ring it in with us and look to better days.

Why did we move from the armory?

We wanted to share why we moved because it speaks to the core of our vision for what this event is, and why we created it in the first place. As promoters, it’s a little crazy to give up a venue as big, versatile and awesome as the armory on nye, so wanted to give you context, if you’re curious… it was wasn’t so long ago new bohemia debuted in 2013 to ring in ’14 as the very first party of its kind at the armory. We wanted to bring together the best of the music, performance and artistic underground, with a dash of kink thrown in, care of our building hosts, to make new years safe and exciting to go out again for what we consider our crowd of discerning party professionals from like minded communities who have come to avoid nye because of the amateur hour factor. That niche of nye expression had lived gloriously at sea of dreams for many years, and both vau de vire and opel participated in that great event many times, and we love and respect joegh bullock, spoon, anon salon and his later partners. When we were invited to create something at the armory by peter acworth, founder of kink.Com and owner of the armory, it coinicided with sea of dreams brief move to the bill graham civic, and it made sense for us to create something smaller and more community focused, that wasn’t about headliners, (though of course we’d have some mid-range talents and friends), but about the synergy and the total experience. And – that’s exactly what was manifested in our 3 awesome years there. We’re so proud of the spectacle created that was truly an only-in-sf experience. But in our 3rd year, though our show was top notch, we lost money. The margins on these events are pretty thin, and though we had a great turn out and it looked plenty busy, it wasn’t enough to break even. We attributed the drop off to the addition of the day block party at mighty, in addition to b.O.C., and likely as well to party people who came to halloween but wouldn’t do both. We learned that to stay at the armory on nye we’d have to start going mega headliner to draw numbers and that’s frankly just not what we want to do with this event. We want to be true to our vision, and the beauty of majesty of the smaller mint is the perfect new house to do that. This party may cost the same (or in some cases more) as the big headliner shows but we’re investing your money to ring in the new year in a much more diverse and (we think, naturally) high quality affair. So… let’s kick 2016 to the curb shall we? And now more than ever let’s celebrate our progressive embrace of the arts, of differences, of freaks and of beauty.
